Why a Portrait, anyway?
There are a million reasons to have your portrait taken, but "this is the right time" is never one of them. It never seems to be. There's always something more urgent, something more important. You are never on top of your own list.
Yet, everybody desires it. A portrait. A really good photo of yourself. Better still, a few photos... a series, maybe. A portrait is not just a perfectly posed, perfectly lit and coreographed photo. |

We go through so many stages in life. At every turn, we are challenged by the way we look. From teenager to grandma, the way we feel about ourselves depends so much on what we see in the mirror. Yet our eyes don't see what others see. We are usually our worst judges and our worst critics.
A portrait can change all that.
Studies have shown that having a portrait taken invariably raises our self-esteem. Seeing ourselves through the eyes of another, seeing ourselves beautiful, funny, charming... the effect is profound, and it changes us deeply.
When I first started taking portraits, I didn't know any of this. I had always worked with models, doing fashion and beauty, and I thought I could bring my experience into my portraits to make them different, to make women feel like models for a day.
But then I realized something far deeper was happening to them. After seeing their photos, they started seeing themselves with new eyes. Not my eyes... their eyes. And as they saw themselves differently, they changed. In the most amazing ways.
I saw teenage girls walk differently, hold themselves differently, and begin to like their own body, their hair, their eyes. Change the way they eat. Be more confident. Make friends and even get better grades in school.
I saw older women get their sparkle back, cut their hair and change their wardrobe, start new adventures and change their lives.
And mothers and daughters together, finding a connection when it seems fragile, strengthening a bond that runs so deep, and making a legacy for all future women in the family.
All because of one simple, beautiful portrait.

And then of course there are Family portraits
Life goes by so quickly. Babies are born, our parents grow old, our children change daily and we have a million photos... but only in our phones and tablets. And in most of our photos we don't even exist...
Yet it is so important that we exist in beautiful photos for our children. That we give them something that they can look at years from now, and see how beautiful their mummy was, how strong their daddy, how much fun and how much love ran through their family.
Everybody wants a great family photo. There's no question about that, yet so often we say "when we have the time", "when I lose some weight", "maybe next Christmas". But children don't stop growing, and grandparents don't get any younger, and this time will never come again. The time is now.
Yet it is so important that we exist in beautiful photos for our children. That we give them something that they can look at years from now, and see how beautiful their mummy was, how strong their daddy, how much fun and how much love ran through their family.

This photography session has been for me and my family a wonderful and new experience. Every time I see our album I can re-play in my mind our family day at the park, every moment that was captured in a photo let me go back and feel and hear the kids playing around, walking and laughing with each other. It was like a normal day that will stay in our minds and in our hands, to be remembered for many years. |
